The Melting Pot is a chain of franchised fondue restaurants in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Tampa, Florida based company has 167 locations as of November 2018. The melting pot menu contains various cheese fondues, wines, salads, entrees of meat and seafood served with dipping sauces and oil or broth to be cooked in, and chocolate fondues. It is part of Front Burner Brands.
The initial Melting Pot opened in April of 1975 in Maitland, Fla., just outside of Orlando. It had been a cozy, quaint location, and its first menu was comprised of just three items: Swiss cheese fondue, beef fondue along with a chocolate fondue dessert. However, since the restaurant’s popularity expanded, so did its menu and ambiance.
Friends enjoying FondueMark Johnston, who was working his way through college as being a waiter at The Melting Pot, noticed the popularity boost and, through the help of his brothers Mike and Bob, scraped together funding to start The Melting Pot of Tallahassee in 1979 (with all the blessing from the original owners in Maitland…needless to say). The Tallahassee location grew enormously popular, and within twelve months, its success paved the way for future franchise expansion.
In 1981, the Johnston brothers made a decision to branch out and opened their second location in Tampa. As their business grew, the brothers begun to consider franchising a lot more stores to be able to expand
Then in 1985, Mark, Mike and Bob Johnston purchased all rights for the Melting Pot brand and established The Melting Pot Restaurants, Inc., the new franchise company. After a year of research and reorganization, The Melting Pot Restaurants, Inc. began its franchise offering.
Building a close knit fondue family – From the beginning, the Johnston brothers were diligent in their search for energetic entrepreneurs who had been as excited because they were regarding the concept along with its potential.
